Grandview, WA - On Friday, November 11, 2011 deputies stopped Juan J. Garcia (10/23/88) of Grandview at the above location. After the initial approach to the vehicle, the deputy returned to his patrol car to check on the driver’s driving status. Mr. Garcia returned with a felony warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm.
While the deputy waited for backup, Garcia left the side of the road, speeding off in his vehicle in an attempt to flee. Losing control of his vehicle in his effort to flee, he went off the road and hit a power pole.
Leaving the vehicle, he attempted to flee on foot through an orchard. When contacted by assisting officers from Grandview and Prosser Police Departments, Garcia pulled a knife and postured as if to stab one of the Prosser Officers. Pulling his duty weapon, the officer was able to convince Garcia to put down the knife.
He was taken into custody without further incident, arrested on the felony warrant and also charged with Assault 2nd degree, attempting to elude, hit and run and resisting arrest. One of the deputies sustained an injury in the foot pursuit and was transported by another deputy to Kadlec Medical Center for treatment of a knee injury.
